The garage was opened to provide much needed garage space for the South London tram replacement program. The building was unique at the time in that was built with reinforced concrete arched vaults allowing free circulation for over 200 buses that it was designed for. Stockwell has been responsible for many unusual workings - ie RLTS and the experimental Shop Linker service in 1979 which was odd at this time given the staff shortages.
The garage is located in Binfield Road, Stockwell close to Stockwell Station.
